CURRICULULM VITAE

Born in 1972, in South Australia, Joanna Cole lives and works in Sydney.

Cole is an Australian artist with a foundation of continuous line drawing. Initially studying with Margie Hooper at the University of South Australia. Cole completed a Masters in Art with excellence at UNSW in 2020. She continues to draw and paint with an interest in line and mark-making that reflects a moment. Balanced on an apex of fauvistic energy and meditative stillness nature inspired observations and philosophical considerings are honoured with awe and wonder. Expressed through an uplift of value in the hues Joanna is considering human contributions to the environment with an invitation to the viewer to Consider Differently.

Colour plays a significant role in the way Cole looks at flora and landforms.  Pinkish, reddish, and yellow hues penetrate perceptions of a location and a moment. She looks for the pink in the sky, the leaf, the stone and these hues dominate the canvas in order to catch the eye, the mind and the spirit.

Over the last several years Joanna Cole’s paintings have been included in national publications, group and solo exhibitions in Sydney, Melbourne and regional NSW and held in private collections around the world. She is honoured to have been a finalist in the Waverley, North Sydney, Blacktown, NSW Parliament en Plein Air and Bowral District Art Prizes.

The artist is represented by Brenda Colahan Fine Arts in New South Wales.
