Joanna Cole is a landscape painter living and working in Sydney. She grew up on a cattle farm in South Australia and evokes in her works a sense of the vitality of the land. Using colour, shapes of hills, gum trees, bushes and rocks and textural brushmarks Cole develops paintings from sketches and plein air paintings made in rural and regional Australia: Hill End, Pental Island and the Murray Downs region, the Mintaro, Clare Valley region of SA and Broken Hill Environs. Cole was a finalist in the NSW Parliament en plein air painting art prize in 2018 and is currently undergoing a residency at the Square One Studios.
