Selected as a finalist for the Belle Property Bowral District Art Prize The Afternoon Paddock 2018 Oil on Canvas 76×76 was inspired by the theme ” My Highland Home” and the trips we have been taking to the southern highlands over the last four years. Brad and I often stay at a farm-stay in the area with a herd of Belted Galloways, wombats, kangaroos, chickens and our two dogs. This painting was developed in the studio from sketches from a trip in June. They were vibrant, fertile paddocks, in comparison with the what we’d been in travelling across the white yellow grasses of the mid north of South Australia and through the red dirt stations of Broken Hill this Summer. The cliffs of the highlands are striking, and the brilliance of the crops, curves of the hills, language of the eucalyptus foliage reflect in this painting, through colour and energetic brush marks a cooler climate and a shorter, kind of jaunty trip.
