Clouded Hills 2017

Mintaro Clouded Seven Hills 30x30

Clouded Seven Hills 2017 JOANNA COLE (30×30 Oil on Linen). SOLD

From the Mintaro trip, this work is one of many renditions of this hillside, in all lights, literally. Cole was left to paint en plein air while Brad and the dogs again went exploring, as the sun set from behind her. It was 38degrees and dry, and she sat for several hours, after they had eaten a picnic dinner. The pinky red glow moment, turned to a flat yellow- or was it blue grey, then the sky cleared, a cloud passed over, half way through a moment of  the blue. The experience was invigorating and Joanna moved from acrylics, to pastels and graphite, ink, observing and capturing nuance. This particular work was rendered a month later in the UNSW studios during summer break, Peter Sharp had stopped to talk for a moment, and commented ” …can you leave it there ?” “…It’s always about knowing when to stop.” Cole took the challenge, and also took a workshop with Peter later in the year, his abstract landscapes and his guidance inspiring. Clouded Seven Hills was sold at exhibition and inspired a commission and a series of other works some of which will be on display at The Other Art Fair in October 2017. #TOAF #Theotherartfairsydney #joannnadarling #joannacolepainter
